Wishing for My Christmas

Published December 12, 2012 by Fat Heffalump

Well here’s something that I don’t get very often – tagged for a blog meme.  I think this is really sweet, and thank you to Tegan over at Musings of the Misguided for including me in a bit of fun.

I’m just going to have a bit of fun with this and put actual items/products I’d like rather than the big aspirational stuff, like dignity and respect for fat people, joy and happiness for all the wonderful people I know in the world (that includes you all) and a life of independent wealth.  Those are a given and I’m sure we’d all wish for those!

But if someone were to ask me what I would like Santa to bring me on Christmas morning, here’s my list:

  1. This Domino Dollhouse dress: red star skater dress
I mean, isn’t it the most swoon-worthy dress EVER?  I have the bone skater dress from Domino Dollhouse which is the same basic shape but has a higher neckline and is in mint green with bones printed all over it, and I love it to bits, but this one just takes it up to 11.  Scoop neckline.  Bold red.  Stars.  SIGN ME UP!
  2. These Asos flatform sandals:
Screen Shot 2012-12-11 at 12.10.19 PMPerfect for summer, hot colours and print and they look seriously comfortable.
  3. This Erstwilder necklace (available online from Birdsnest):

It’s a whale!!  What more could a fab fatty want by way of accessories?  I already have several Erstwilder pieces (lots actually!) because they are mega cute, colourful and affordable.
  4. This Librarian bracelet from A Likely Story:Screen Shot 2012-12-12 at 8.04.20 PMIsn’t it adorable?  And it’s bookish and librarian-y and I just love it.
  5. And finally, this dress from eShakti:Screen Shot 2012-12-12 at 8.14.21 PMWhen are eShakti finally going to get it together and ship to Australia?  Their dresses are so beautiful it makes me cry.  I mean this one has OWLS on it for God’s sake!

So there you have my Christmas wish list.  Well, a tiny portion of it, there are so many awesome, beautiful, fabulous things out there, I just picked a few I really liked.

Now, who shall I tag… let me see… here are some fab ladies for you all to check out:

  1. Bek from Colourful Curves
  2. Olivia from Wait Until the Sunset
  3. Sarah from Radically Visible
  4. Bri from My Scarlett Heartt
  5. Rachele from The Nearsighted Owl

Ladies you are under no obligation, but I’d love to see your lists if you want to do them!

And if anyone else wants to have a go on their own blog, please do and share the link in the comments!

All I Want For Christmas…

Published November 29, 2011 by Fat Heffalump

I’ve been working on a massive audit in my day job that is frying my brain (all those numbers!!) so let’s have a little fun tonight and look at some fabulous and fat friendly things that we might like for Christmas.  Who knows, we might get some gift ideas for other fab fatties in our lives too.

Let’s start with something that I’ve already ordered for myself, but I think EVERY fab fatty needs one of these in preparation for the new year.

Yes, it’s Marilyn Wann’s 2012 Fat!So? Dayplanner!

It’s a mere $14 (plus shipping) and all proceeds will go to building the Weight Diversity Action Lounge, a community center for fun, food, fitness, and fabulousness somewhere in Oakland, California.  I mean… it’s Marilyn Wann!  Plus it’s chock full of other contributors, inspiration, tips and art… including yours truly!

How about this adorable Lovedrobe Teal Heart Print Dress from Evans?

I love anything in chocolatey browns with teal, and a heart motif is one of my favourites.

Then there’s this pretty butterfly print top also from Evans.

And this GORGEOUS floral top, again from Evans.

How about a fat positive colouring book?  I want at least three copies of Fat Ladies in Spaaaaace: a body-positive coloring book!

How awesome is that?  Colouring in fat ladies.  IN SPACE!

Then of course, what fab fatty wouldn’t want a copy of Hanne Blank‘s “Big Big Love”?

(Can you guess that my Amazon wish list is pretty long?)

How about Substantia Jones’ 2012 Adipositivity Calendar?

The Adipositivity Project has been pivotal in my journey to fat positivity and strong self esteem.

More clothes!  I long for beautiful dresses from eShakti, these are my favourites (click on the images to go to the page on eShakti):

The Artist's Wife Dress

Singing In The Rain Dress

Dzilla Brass Rings Dress

The Birds Who Gossip Dress

Aren’t they all gorgeous??  I would LIVE in dresses like these if I could.

How about some amazing shoes?  I dream of Fluevog shoes.  They are the absolute pinnacle of shoe heaven for me, and they’re very fat friendly, with their wider fittings and excellent craftsmanship.  How about this selection (again, click the images to go to the website):

Splendid in Stripes

Caspian in Black and Off-White

Zaza in Red, Pink and Grey

I think we need to wind up with some accessories.  Let me see:

How about an ice-cream charm, from Georgina at Cupcake’s Clothes, and her cute label DollyMixx:

I love the radical defiance of wearing food accessories as a fat woman.  Fat women are policed about food all the time, so let’s chant Fuck Tha Police by wearing food as accessories!

What about a cupcake ring?  This one is from Etsy store Dolly-Tastic:

And while we’re on Dolly-Tastic, I absolutely adore this Hello Kitty charm bracelet:

Another one of my favourite sources for accessories is Sick for Cute (who have a plus-size range too), and I think I really, really need these whale socks:

Whale socks on a fat woman!  I love it!

And finally, I just spotted this bag and completely fell in love.

How’s that for a Christmas List?  Of course, there are loads of other wonderful goodies out there that would also be a delight to find under my Christmas tree, but these are some of the things I’m drooling over currently.

What about you?  What fat-friendly goodies would you love to find in your Christmas stocking?  Dream big in the comments Heffalumpies!

Merry Christmas from Fat Heffalump

Published December 24, 2009 by Fat Heffalump

I just wanted to stop by with a quick post tonight, on Christmas Eve, to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas.

Photobucket

I wish you all lots of joy, love, celebrations, laughs, tasty treats, goofy dancing, corny songs, playfulness, friends, hugs and peace.

Remember, you are worth as much as any other human being on this earth no matter what your size, and Christmas is a time for joy and celebration, not guilt, angst and low self esteem.

Remember, food has no moral value.  Your body is your own, and nobody has the right to comment on it or judge you because of it.  Not even your family. You are allowed to eat and enjoy food, without guilt or censure.  Taste it, smell it, savour and enjoy it and even over indulge in it a bit.  It’s bloody Christmas after all.  Try to avoid hangovers though – they’re not fun.

Walk tall.  Smile.  Relax and enjoy yourself.  You deserve it.

Isn’t Christmas Supposed to be MERRY?

Published December 19, 2009 by Fat Heffalump

Ahh, here we are, less than a week away from Christmas.  It’s the silly season, that time of year we’re all meant to be celebrating, being grateful for all that we have and spending happy time with the folks in our lives, be they friend or family.  You know, being merry.

So why am I hearing SO much heartache from so many people right now?  Or should I say, again this year.

I can’t count the number of times over the past few weeks that I’ve heard someone say something like “Ugh, Christmas – the time of year my family declares open season on criticising me for my weight.”  Or agonising over people judging them at the office Christmas party for whatever they eat.  Or perhaps saying that they can’t enjoy Christmas because they are on a diet and can’t have all the things other people are having.  Not to mention the merry remorse – the whole “Oh I’ve eaten so much tonight, I’m going to have to be so good after this!”

And then there is this malarkey about Santa being a global ambassador for obesity. Pardon my frankness… but oh for fuck’s sake!

Christmas means a lot to me.  Not only because I am Christian and it has spiritual significance, but also because I believe it is a time where goodwill is actively encouraged (rather than the usual sense of “me entitlement” that is flourishing in our current culture) and where I make even more effort to spend some time with the people that matter to me.

I say give yourself a Christmas present.  Relax.  Be kind to yourself.  Do not accept anyone criticising your body, your eating, your exercise regime (or lack of one).  Enjoy the treats of Christmas time, listen to your body and when it tells you it’s had enough, believe it.  For those of us in the Southern hemisphere, go easy on yourself in the hot weather, have a swim if you enjoy it.  For those of you in the Northern Hemisphere, stay warm.  Indulge a bit.  Laugh with people you care about.  Don’t sweat over what to buy people for gifts, buy what you know will make them feel good.

Spend the most time with people who make you feel good about yourself, and try to avoid those who don’t.  If you have to endure people who don’t make you feel good, remember that their shitty comments and attitudes are worth nothing.  What matters are the people who you love and who love you.

Let go of the guilt.  It accomplishes absolutely nothing good for you, and prevents you from getting anything constructive done.  So what, you ate too much.  You now have a belly ache and know not to do it again!

Leave Santa a treat.  Not a diet treat.  The poor bugger has so much to do in 24 hours, he needs all the fuel he can get.  If he is in a hurry and doesn’t have time to eat the treat you leave for him, eat it yourself on his behalf.  Santa hates waste.

I know what I’m doing this Christmas.  Spending time with friends whose company I enjoy, talking, laughing and enjoying good food and drinks.  Then cranking up my air conditioning, plugging in my shiny new Wii and playing some Wii tennis!
